New Firmware for N800 and N95, and new PC Suite
Holy Updated Gadgets Batman, it’s New Firmware Day! I woke up this morning to check my RSS and the first thing I saw was a post by WOMworld about Skype on the N800. They’ve already posted about that, so I clicked to see what else, and BOOM! New firmware for my N800 Internet Tablet! With Skype built-in (kinda). SCORE. Other improvements include SDHC support, updated Flash, and some other misc. stuff that I’ll let you explore to find. You can get a full changelog from Thoughtfix. Download the Nokia Internet Tablet Software Updater here.
Also, I’ve been revisiting my N800 recently from a more multimedia standpoint, and will be posting on that in the coming weeks.
THEN, I kept going through my RSS only to discover that the new N95 firmware that I posted about earlier is NOW OFFICIALLY AVAILABLE!! That’s right, 12.0.0.013 is now available en masse, and with the beloved A-GPS support!Just plug your phone in and get the updated Nokia Software Updater here.
Oh, and I almost forgot, PC Suite has been updated, as well, to finally setup a folder on your desktop that you can sync files with your mobile device. THIS is freakin awesome, for consumers and Nseries but more importantly, to position Nokia’s Eseries as a better contender with Windows Mobile devices. More to come on this later. You can get the new version here.
So gather up your gadgets and USB cables, set aside some time, and GO GO GO!!

Hey Ricky the Nokia Software Updater does not yield the new firmware for N95. I bought my phone from the Nokia Flagship Store in NYC. BTW, I have the latest version of the Nokia Software Updater. How did you install the latest firmware?
The units bought in the US Flasgship stores usually take a while before Nokia updates their servers to update those units. They usually do the EURO versions first before they update the US ones. As of this moment, the EURO versions get the v.12. If you want to get version 12, you need to change your product code to a EURO one and then you will get it. If not, just be patient and eventually NSU will eventually get v.12 for the US variants.
R u kidding? Is it possible to change the product code? BTW, haven’t you bought your phone in the U.S. and if that is the case how come you could upgrade to the newest firmware? Tnx!
Ricky, bit off topic, but do you have any further confirmation that a US N95 is indeed coming, and coming in August?
New version of Maps doesn’t seem to be included with the update.
Are you sure there is an update available? I checked via the checker and it only gave version 11 via the software update availability checker where you enter your product code.
So I thought I would just use the link provided by this article and use the software updater, but it comes up with just version 11 and asks if I want to reinstall.
Kevin
Mine is a US variant that came from the NYC Flagship store but I did change my product code to a EURO version (0536062) and I have successfully updated to v.12. You need NSS to change the product code….really easy!
Hmm..I installed this version and it did not create a folder on desktop. Did I miss something? I’m using an N80ie
Unfortunately, no, you didn’t miss anything. To turn on the file sync, you have to go to “Synchronize” and then check the “files” box. Then look up top, there’s a new files tab. Click that and you can pick your folder. It basically points to a “briefcase” folder in your MyDocuments (which I like, I keep a clean desktop and hate intruders) but I don’t think it automatically creates it. Kinda dumb.
What is NSS ??? I can’t upgrade my is a Us version
Thanks Ricky. That did it!
NSS is a program called Nemesis Service Suite. There’s a beta that’s a free download (do a search). Anyway, changing the product code using it is a snap (I’d suggest changing it back to the US product code after the flash - look underneath the battery for the number starting with 05 - so you can flash it with the official U.S. firmware when it’s out).
Anyway, Assisted GPS is nice - I got a “lock” on my location from inside where no satellite was available. The menus are also very quick. Opera Mini loads up and runs very quickly and smoothly (no more waiting for dialog boxes to pop up). This seems like the firmware N95 should have been released with. All the reviews complaining about sluggishness are now out-of-date as a result of this firmware. Caveat, though. If you upgraded Nokia Maps, you’ll need to do so again, since the firmware has the “old” application installed.
You use the Nokia Software updater ??? or ???
I can“t get the v12 my code is 0548377/ can sme bady send the v12??
