Things Are Coming Around
I will make the humble claim that *perhaps* I overreacted previously in regards to the idea of shutting Tablet-Guru down. I have a few links that help explain things:
First, in regards to the Firmware downloads and Repository issues, Ferenc Szekely, whose position I’m not clear on, has posted this update to the maemo-developers mailing list:
I owe you an explanation about the problems we faced with the firmware
downloads, repository.maemo.org and the windows update wizard server
backend since Xmas till the beginning of Jan.The infrastructure is built so that the content from
repository.maemo.org is served thru a huge caching network. We were
supposed to use the same network for the firmware downloads as well,
but due to a misconfiguration and _my negligence_ all the requests
ended up at our origin server (stage.maemo.org).Soon after the N810 launch the traffic dramatically increased and the
server could not handle it anymore. It was actually never meant to
handle such load. Read Full Text
Bravo, Ferenc, for being the first Nokian to stand up and accept responsibility. You deserve a raise, seriously.
Quim Gil has also posted an update to the maemo-developers list:
Back from holidays. I was more or less aware of the issues (thanks to
people posting here and there, also in my blog) but without any
possibility to do much. Other people in our team were following and
checking issues with the shops. After a first round this morning:
- There are no issues in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Finland,
Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland.- We are getting reports from France, Germany, Italy, Spain and UK at
this moment. There have been some issues in some of these shops but let
me until tomorrow to summarize the situation.- We will talk to US and Canada later today due to different timezones.
I’m hoping to post a general summary tomorrow, hopefully full of good
news. :/
Thank you for the update, Quim. However, though you were apparently unable to update us yourself (which is fine, you were on holiday, afterall), why didn’t the ‘other people in our team’ feel led to post even a small blurb somewhere explaining that?
In any case, thank you, Nokia/Maemo for the updates. However, these weren’t easy to find. The mailing lists aren’t very apparent when looking at the Maemo.org website. I would suggest adding a ‘news’ section to the Tableteer page, so that people not in tune with the Maemo.org site could have an inkling of what’s going on. I personally think the Tableteer site is a great little resource, and should be used as the frontline communication tool with Tablet users, specifically as the project moves closer and closer to the consumer end of the scale.

See, at least someone is taking responsibility.
Keep the faith Guru.

I agree with you about Tableteer. It makes perfect sense.
