Maemo Theme Maker Updated For OS2008
All I can say is wow. Urho Konttori has updated his Theme Maker java application to create OS2008 Compatible themes, and I have to say, I’m wowed, both by the results and by the level of dedication it would take to create a custom theme. Currently, the Theme Maker requires that you open the PNG template in a photo editing software such as Photoshop, customize what you want, and then use the theme maker to create the .deb file.
The results, as Urho shows off with the updated NuvoPearl theme, can be seriously beautiful. However, when I opened the PNG template, I found that there are a plethora of different features you would need to update to create a truly ‘custom’ theme. I’m not complaining, mind you, just giving a fair assessment. There will be individuals out there with enough Photoshop experience and dedication to create some killer themes, and I’ll be the first to promote them.
However, as Nokia gradually moves the Internet Tablets towards a more consumer target, I’m interested to see how they address the ‘themeability’ of Maemo. For instance, on my N95, which runs S60v3, it’s incredibly easy to create a theme via several web-based services such as Ownskin.com and Mobile9.com. I wonder how long until any random user could create their own theme, without anything other than web access?

Might just give this a go, my theming urges have been acting up recently.
