Diablo Is Here, Makes Updates Easier

Diablo Is Here, Makes Updates Easier

Sorry for the lack of updates lately, I’ll reprimand Mr. The Informer immediately! In case you missed it, Nokia has finally released Diablo, the latest update to OS2008, Maemo, or whatever you want to call the Operating System that makes the Internet Tablets….well….run.

The update is available here, and adds several cool features. The biggest addition is SSU, which basically allows Nokia to issue firmware upgrades in the future without requiring the user to flash their entire tablet. In conjunction with that, the new Application Manager will automatically check for updates to the Firmware *and* to your 3rd party applications every 24 hours, and will notify you in the Status Bar if there’s an update available. VERY handy, and a giant leap towards moving the Internet Tablets closer to the Consumer, in my opinion.

The other big feature is that the Email client has received a complete overhaul, basically pulling from Modest and TinyMail. It’s now much more stable and usable, and the setup wizard has been expanded and improved so that within just a few steps, you’re rocking and rolling with full email support on your tablet. I’ve setup my Gmail IMAP on there and it works like a charm.

Numerous other small fixes and improvements are hidden within the OS, so this is an update you won’t want to miss.

All you Tableteers who’ve been grumbling that they can’t update their tablets with OSX, your prayers have been answered (well, once you get a Windows machine to apply *this* update).

  1. I updated my NIT 810 to Diablo on OSX last night.

    Found this link:

    http://www.delaytolerant.com/flashing-n810-osx/

And followed it with the exception of I held the “switch window” button (the top one of the two beside the screen) and pushed the power button.

    Worked for me!

    Cheers

  2. The upgrade is well worth it. Highly recommended.
