Michael Arrington Wants An Internet Tablet

Michael Arrington recently posted over at TechCrunch that he wants an Internet Tablet. Well, ok, he didn’t use those words. He said he wants “[a] machine as thin as possible, runs low end hardware and has a single button for powering it on and off, headphone jacks, a built in camera for video, low end speakers, and a microphone. It will have Wifi, maybe one USB port, a built in battery, half a Gigabyte of RAM, a 4-Gigabyte solid state hard drive. Data input is primarily through an iPhone-like touch screen keyboard. It runs on Linux and Firefox. It would be great to have it be built entirely on open source hardware, but including Skype for VOIP and video calls may be a nice touch, too.

So, basically, Arrington (and 137 commenters, at the time of this post) are very obviously INTERESTED in the Nokia Internet Tablets. What’s the problem? They don’t know it yet. Nokia hasn’t successfully marketed the Tablets as the solution to this problem. Fascinating.

Dear Nokia: Offer Arrington and his commenters the N810 for $200. It’s worth the marketing.

  1. Is it worth it? Yep; is Maemo positioned to make it happen sooner rather than later? I want to say Yes, the question is will Nokia push. Because they really can, and it would be good if they pushed the IT faster along.

  2. But what is the point of having such a large screen which is not pocketable??

I mean whatever this tablet does the eee pc can do and it is the same size… almost

Both need bags to carry them…. so i dont see the need.

Wheras the NIT is pocketable… Nothing can beat that.

  3. Nokia’s pocketablity was a detriment to me.
I had mine for two weeks and then sold it on ebay.
    Why?
I loved the concept but the reality is that web pages and tiny screen size just don’t go together.
The Nokia was killing my eyes and proved too frustrating.
The asus 7″ screen would be much more ideal… without all the larger hardware surrounding it.
Aim for such a tablet and I might be in the market once again.

  4. @ Philip. Did you try changing the fonts in microb. Changing them to 16 makes a lot of difference.
