First Step Towards A Finger Friendly Tablet
One thing I’m known for saying about the Nokia Internet Tablets is that Maemo needs to decide whether it wants you to use the stylus or your finger, and stick with that. Neither choice is really good or bad, they both have their advantages and drawbacks.
If you’re one who, like me, thinks finger-friendly is the way to go, then I want to let you knoow something you can implement right nows that will make your entire tablet experience much more finger friendly. It’s a theme called EchoWB. This theme is visually identical to the Echo system theme save for one important detail – all the scrollbars throughout the whole tablet are wide enough to be finger friendly.
Such a small change, and yet I think you’ll find that it makes the entire user experience just a little bit better, being able to navigate better without trying to use your fingernail or pop the stylus out all the time.
You can download the EchoWB theme using the button below.

Hi,
Could you post some screenshots showing this user friendly interface ?
Cheers, Jan
Everytime I click on the one-click install it takes me to the one-click image rather than installing anything.
The “install button” doesn’t work…
i think that nokia should let the user choose.
kinda like this, but controled via options on the control panel.
enable the user to turn on more finger friendly menus, scroll bars and so on. probably best to have those independent of each other tho. and maybe have apps that dont signal that they are friendly with this (like say straight ports of gnome/gtk apps from the desktop) default back to non-fingerfriendly scrollbars…
I like this theme; but it makes me a bit miffed that the tablet’s screen is recessed versus flush. While the sidebars are now sized right, the bevel gets in the way on my n800.
To those with an issue with the link in the post: https://garage.maemo.org/frs/download.php/3717/echowb.deb
This is great. Amazing that a simple theme change would have such a big impact. Nokia should make this scrollbar size the default in Maemo.
BTW, EchoWB is available for download from garage.maemo.org if install link isn’t working for you.
Thanks for proof-checking for me, guys. I fixed the install link. It actually *does* point to the .deb file, but if you’re on your Tablet, that should ask if you want to open it, and then will automatically install. It’s meant to make it easier than saying ‘Here’s a .deb file, figure out what you need to do with this.’
